HVAC / heating (water heaters) links

Postby djv » Mon Jun 23, 2003 8:46 pm

:( Since I am not to the stage of planning mechanicals yet, I haven't been following the heating and cooling links.

Has anyone been keeping track of HVAC links?

My Brother-in-law put me on to the people over at Real Goods http://www.realgoods.com . They do the energy efficient and renewable energy systems. The web site didn't have much to look at, but I requested they send me a catalog. It has gas and electric tankless as well as solar preheat tank systems. It's been a great place to get ideas.

There is also several books in the catalog. One of them is called The Passive Solar House by James Kachadorian. It might give you some ideas on designing for HVAC.

I have a book around here called The Natural House. LOTS of suggestions.. no domes in it but they cover a lot of ground in it.. building materials, living spaces, the copy I have had a glass home.. (yes lets live in a fish bowl) underground homes, recycled material homes, water systems, grey water, etc.. etc etc.. I know the book has been revised I think more than once since I picked up my copy, (which was umm over 15 or so ago) Ok I went and snooped on Barnes and Noble.
The NEW book is The New Natural House book. You can still get the old versions in their used book area.
this is part of the desc on line for the old book..
"...combining home design and environmental
concerns, this handbook shows how to turn any house or apartment into
a sanctuary for enhancing your well-being...provides both inspiration and
easy, practical suggestions for using toxin-free materials, improving air
and water quality, saving energy, and designing or adapting every room
for holistic living. "
