whitewash

I saw the article about whitewashing the inside of Brucco. Does applying whitewash to the inside concrete effect the thermal mass characteristics? And how does whitewash keep insects away?

It will not effect the thermal mass of the concrete at all. Its not an insulator.

As far as how the lime keeps the spiders away, we have no idea. Its been a pleasant side effect. I am going to spray some under my carport soon to see how well it keeps them away. I will try to remember and post the results here.

You ask good questions. If you go to several websites you can find that the old whitewash was use as antibacterial. I do not have an answer why it keeps the spiders out of the bldg. But it has something to do with the lime. In any case it is a great product. It will rub off but for most applications we are going to use it for shops etc. We do add some of our Monolithic acrylic to it. It makes it tougher and costs very little. We love it. Bruco the Caterpillar has now over a year on it and it is absolutely great. So is the 40 foot shop just to the north. We are experimenting with adding some white cement and using it outside. We will let you know.
