Newbie with ideas

Hello fellow dome lovers,

This is my first post, been lurking on monolithic domes sites for many years.

My long standing goal is to design and build domes and other types of building. I started a web development company in 2009 on my own in hopes of selling it to start my own building business.

Then in 2010 I had a long medical setback that I’m finally out of the woods, but a few years lost. So I figured even if I cannot build right now I wanted to start sharing my designs.

I have an art and engineering background with schooling but before I graduated I went full time with the job that was part time during collage. Spent 13+ years being a network engineer all the while designing my ideas on the side.

My personal site was displaying my LEGO hobby but now I’m sharing my designs in hopes of seeing them built. You can view my domes designs page here.

So below are just a few of the designs I have converted to 3D with Google ScetchUp.

I lost how many revisions I have made to this design over the years but basically it’s a 40m dome with 3 floors for living with up to 12 units within.

For fun I created this dome shape inspired my Fibonacci curves.

Massive Dome Apartment Complex, not all windows and are included in these pictures as this is not finished.

I have more to share and building techniques I would like to discuss when I get time.

I hope you enjoy

Neato! I'd dreamed up one some time ago myself. A block-sized toroid divided up into rectangular apartments with a large open common area in the center. Since the circumference difference between the inside and the outside is so much smaller, the reinforcing is more akin to a dome tube than an actual toroid, the difficulties about which Monolithic has written extensively. Just leave one small section of it open in some way for getting landscaping and construction supplies into the center.

Or, if the toroid is large enough, cut a pair of arches large enough to let equipment through and wall off the living areas on either side. This forms a sally port of sorts. It could be gated to provide more security to people using the courtyard. I would think something like this would be very attractive to residents with small children.
